Sautéed Broccoli Rabe
This simple dish is easy to grow, easy to cook, and just delicious. Broccoli rabe is one of many vegetables I love growing hydroponically. It produces well, tastes great, and the green florets and leaves look wonderful in the iHarvest Indoor Garden. Perhaps best of all, this healthy sauté dish will be ready in 20 minutes or less, and that includes prep time!
Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes Ready in: ~20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch of broccoli rabe
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves (thinly sliced)
- 1 medium lemon
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Sea Salt
- Pepper
The first thing you will want to do is blanch your broccoli rabe. Bring a large pot of water to boil and have a bowl of ice water on hand. Drop your broccoli rabe in the boiling water for 1-2 minutes, then remove it and immediately place it in the ice water long enough to cool (15-30 seconds). Dry your broccoli rabe and set it aside.
Place a large frying pan with 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. When it is up to temperature, add your garlic and pepper flakes. I will sometimes add nuts as well for extra crunch and taste. Stir your mixture frequently for about a minute, under the garlic has become golden brown.
Add your broccoli rabe, salt, and pepper to the frying pan. Sauté the contents of your frying pan for another 3-5 minutes. Remove any excess liquid and serve with a slice of lemon as a delicious and healthy side dish.
